8-13-18 I Am Adopted Ro 8:15
One of the most basic needs for every human being is to belong. When we are still in our sin, before we surrender our lives to Jesus, we do not belong to the Holy Family of God, and even if we cannot put our finger on it, we sense that this greatest “belonging” is missing in our lives. It is this “hole” in us that we humans attempt to fill with worldly things. Whether we try to have fulfilling relationships to fill that void or if we try to find prestige, popularity or prosperity to make up for that emptiness within, none of these things will fulfill this longing to belong. The only piece that fits perfectly into that space is God…and the instant we cry out to Him to invite His Presence into our hearts is the moment that Spot is finally complete. Listen:
“The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”” Ro 8:15 NIV
I am adopted. When I gave my life to Jesus, He made me part of the Holy Family. He gave me the right to be called a child of God. (Jn 1:12) He brought me into the Holy Family for now and forevermore. I am sealed in the Holy Spirit, guaranteeing me a place in the Kingdom, here and hereafter. (2Co 1:22) This still amazes me on a daily basis. I, who was an enemy of God, (Ro 5:10) am now a co-heir in Christ! (Ro 8:17) What an honor and privilege to belong to God! And what a fulfilling and fully satisfying way to live the rest of my life here before I completely realize this gift in Heaven! I have been counted as one worthy of being in His Presence and receiving all His presents now and forever. Are you getting my point? I belong to God and have been adopted into His Holy Family and that hole inside of me no longer exists. The more I grow in His mighty Love, the more I experience this Truth and the more abundant my life gets.
I am adopted. It would be one thing if God HAD to Love us because He was stuck with us as part of His Holy Family. If God NEEDED us in any way, then He would have to put up with all our disobedience and sinfulness. If God had NO CHOICE but to allow all of us into Heaven, His hands would be tied and, I guess He would have to grant us blessings. But that is NOT the case. God neither needs us or has no choice but to let us into Heaven…and, my Friends, His hands are never tied! The amazing Truth is that God WANTS us! Not only does He want to be in our lives, but He wants us in His Life too! (Take a moment to think about that last sentence.) It is all about relationship with God, but the beauty in it all is that He desires to CHOOSE us to be with Him. He desires to adopt us into His Holy Family. He desires to fulfill our longing to belong, not for a little while, but forevermore! The more you choose to grow in His mighty Love, the more you will experience this Truth and the more abundant your life will become.
I am adopted. If you have never done this before, won’t you repeat these words until your heart believes and desires them? Say it with me:
“Lord, I have been living my life apart from You, but nothing I do or have ever fulfills me for very long. I want to surrender it all to You right now so that I may belong to You forever. Come into my heart Holy Spirit and show me my place in the Holy Family. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for giving me the right to be called a child of God. I believe in You. I receive You. And I desire to live inYou. Amen.”
If you just prayed that prayer, won’t you let me know? I would love for you to join me in my journey to know God and make Him known.
Until we meet again. Keep lifting your eyes to God, He’s closer than you think…
